Year 10 GCSE Product Design pupils had a fantastic and rare opportunity to meet a Engineer and Graduate from Aston Martin. The presentation provided by Aston Martin gave the pupils an insight into the world of Engineering and covered areas such as Design, Marketing, Finance, Manufacturing, Testing and the importance of STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Maths) subjects.
During the visit the pupils also had the opportunity to enter a car design competition and present their final concepts to the Aston Martin Engineer. Overall the Aston Martin Engineer was very impressed with the quality of the concepts and chose 3 winners: 1st Prize: Tiarnan Catton, 2nd Prize: Jessica Newgas, 3rd Prize: Haydn Wiles
Year 11 Fancy Dress, Birmingham Children's Hospital
Year 11, having finished their mock exams, held a musically-themed fancy dress day, raising over £300 for Birmingham Children's Hospital.
Jitsu Atemi Nationals
At the recent Junior Jitsu Atemi Nationals, St Benedict's was represented by Callum and Matthew McDonnell, and Jordan Jones. Jordan fought an extremly tough group and managed to win a bronze trophy, but all the lads represented themselves, the club and the school very well.
Spanish Exchange
Our Year 10 and Year 12 students went to Malaga recently on an exchange visit to practise their language skills. They lived with a Spanish family and attended a local secondary school.The Year 12 students delivered some of the English classes, preparing their own materials and working with the older Spanish students, giving them the opportunity to enrich their CAS portfolios at the same time.A fantastic time was had by all. The Spanish students return in April.
National Archery Success
Congratulations to Michael McCarthy who is the Junior Gentlemen U12 National Outdoor Archery Champion. Michael also came 3rd in the recent Junior Gentleman Under 12 Recurve category in the Junior National Indoor Archery Championships which was held at the Telford International Centre. 200 archers from all over the UK with ages ranging from 7 - 17 were competing.
Sixth Form, September 2012

Uganda Visit
A group of Year 11 & Year 12 pupils played an active part in school life as guests of St Kizito Secondary School in Kampala during the October half term.
Highlights included a journey across the Equator, safari in the Queen Elizabeth National Park and an emotional visit to the Sanyu Babies Home. St Benedict's looks forward to welcoming some of St Kizito's pupils to Alcester in May 2012.
